The Italian champions Juventus have managed to complete the signing of the former Chelsea striker Nicolas Anelka on a six-month deal from the Chinese club Shanghai Shenhua. The former French international moved to the Chinese league more than a year ago, but he has been unhappy recently.
Even though he was joined by his former teammate Didier Drogba at the club, there has been a lot of speculation surrounding his future in the last few months. Anelka has played for the likes of Real Madrid, Liverpool, and Manchester City in an illustrious career that has taken him through several countries over the years.
Anelka managed to score only three goals during his 16 month spell at the Chinese club. He made 22 appearances in total for the Chinese club. He has agreed to take a massive wages cut in order to join Juventus, and he has said he is extremely delighted to be joining the club once again. Anelka will be taking part in the Champions League as well this season. The striker last played in this competition when he was at Chelsea. Anelka will provide some much needed strength to the attack of Juventus, who have a three-point advantage over Napoli in the table.
"It's nice to get back to a big club. I'm proud to put on the shirt. The Champions League is a very difficult competition to win, but a team like Juventus has the players and qualities needed and will do everything to win the cup. I know that Serie A is a very difficult, physical, hotly contested and very demanding league. I've never played in Italian football, the English style corresponds more to my style but I appreciate other leagues," said Anelka. Juventus' form has been suffering in recent weeks, and Anelka's arrival will be a major boost.
