The 2017-18 Serie A season will be Gianluigi´s Buffon´s last

During the summer of 2001, Gianluigi Buffon marked his name in the history-books of football as the Italian shot-stopper became the most expensive goal-keeper ever.

Buffon was signed by Juventus for a transfer fee of €52 million.

This transfer was completed over 15 years ago and Buffon still continues to be the costliest player in his position.

Fortunately for Juventus, signing Buffon is probably the best transfer that they have ever done as the impact that the Italian player has made since arriving in 2001 is monumental.

Gianluigi Buffon has helped Juventus in winning 10 Serie A titles as well as many more pieces of silverware and he has received various individual awards including: Serie A Goalkeeper of the Year award on 11 occasions and UEFA Team of the Year, just to name a few.

Even at the age of 39, he still continues performing at the highest level and he´s considered to be as one of the best players in the goal-keeping position along with Manuel Neuer.

During the recently concluded Serie A season of 2016-17, Buffon captained Juventus to a 6th successive domestic league title and lost to Real Madrid in the finals of the UEFA Champions League.

After having made over 450 appearances for Juventus, the veteran shot-stopper has stated that the upcoming season of 2017-18 will be his last one.

"I'm 99.9 percent certain of that. I'm going to have one final, intense season, rich in big moments, and then it will be time to say enough is enough. We've just left one small possibility open with the Juve president Andrea Agnelli, and that is if we manage to win the Champions League I will carry on playing one more year to try to win the Club World Cup and other trophies."Gianluigi Buffon of Juventus said as he stated that his time in the pitch is almost over.
